As I was laying in the dark I heard the buzz of a text message coming through on my phone. It was late and it was unexpected. I turned over to grab my phone and see who was messaging me. The message was from one of my best friends, whom I had known from the first day of 9th grade. Our friendship is easily over 35 years old. We catch up every few months with a coffee date and usually spend 2-3 hours sharing our lives and we pray for each other. The text read, “Just checking in on you - how are you? How’s Tim? Been praying especially hard for you today. Love you!”
Wow, is all I could think. God you’re right here! He put it on my friend’s heart to pray for us and pray hard, ...today! For her to text, what a gift from God. I had gotten into bed feeling so very tired, worn out and sick! The first two years of Tim’s treatment had been pretty uneventful in the cold and flu season and I had been so thankful. But we were starting this fall off with a winner of a cold, and this last few days had kicked our butts. Everybody except Neil had succumbed to this sneezy, achey, coughing cold! I wrote back to her and told her what was going on and my last sentence was, “Thanks for hope.”
That little message of hope that God sent through my friend was what I needed that night. Sometimes when we are in the midst of the battle we forget that He is right there with us. He’s fighting for us and with us. He used my friend’s prayers, her text, and her love. God is so very gracious and yes He uses Text Message!
